Here’s to being unique, or maybe not.

As I get older and have more “unique” experiences in my life, I realize just how closely related my experiences are to other people’s. This is especially true as I read other people’s blogs and biographies that give me a glimpse into their human experience. Scott Adams, the Dilbert creator, posts today about some of his life experience.

This blog for example, is the direct result of me having ideas trapped inside my head and their dying to be let out and breathe, so new ones can percolate. When I think of something to write, its as if nothing else matters until I get it out. This is all done probably to the detriment of my social life and grad school work, because I’m spending time writing things out and drawing graphs, instead of other things. Oh the opportunity costs….

However, like Scott, I feel compelled to write them. I didn’t have this idea floating around, but reading Scott’s blog made me realize what was going on in my life right now.

  1. Jake,

I agree, I feel compelled to write. Sometimes I think of things and ponder them for days and just need to have an outlet to express my thoughts. A lot of my blog comes from other conversations, debates, topics that I hear from friends and co-workers. A great deal of my blog is informative to the people who follow me, mostly my mother because we can’t talk on a daily basis since I am here in GTMO. I say keep blogging, even if you are doing it for your self. I started this blog when I first arrived on island and now I have a time line of my thoughts from my time here on “the most secured gated community in the Caribbean.” Writing is freeing!! Check out this blog. Its is really interesting, and calls for people to write for one minute a day on the topic from the blogger. She has done some interesting topics and the responses are really enjoyable to read. http://oneminutewriter.blogspot.com/
